DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY.
The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery was held last Tuesday, the Moderator (the Rev. E. Adams) presiding. The Presbytery endorsed the appointment by the Presbyterian Social Service Association of the following chaplains:— Rev. R. Fairmaid (Dunedin Hospital), Rev. F. M. Beattie (Benevolent Institution), Rev. W. R. Hutchison (Wakari Hospital), and Rev. R. E. Evans (Ross Home), it was explained in a letter from the association that the Rev. J. U. Spence had felt it necessary to resign his work in connection with the Hospital.—Resolutions of appreciation of the work of visitation done by the Rev. R. Fairmaid and Rev. J. U. Spence were carried, on the motions of the Rev. Graham Balfour and the Rev. Dr Cameron respectively.—The Clerk pointed out the necessity for appointing chaplains to the Seacliff and Orokonui institutions, and proposed the appointment of the Rev. Messrs King and Jamieson respectively. — This was carried. The Clerk read the proposed constitution of the Council of Christian Churches, which is declared to exist for the purpose of considering public questions affecting the progress of the Kingdom of God, and the moral and spiritual welfare of the church and community, and of taking action if necessary. The council is to consist of 10 Presbyterian delegates, 7 Anglican, 7 Methodist, 5 Baptist, 5 Congregational 5 Church of Christ and 4 Salvation Army. Decisions are to be reached on a simple majority or by churches in the case of making a public pronouncement. There is provision for the publication of majority and minority reports.—The matter was referred to the Public Questions Committee. A report from the special committee appointed to consider the advisability of raising tile minimum stipend for ministers to £3OO stated that it had been arranged to consult several congregai ions, and that the result of those consultations would be presented to the next meeting. Resolutions of sympathy wore carried with the relatives of the late Robert Leishman and A. J. Wither.
