CARPENTERS’ DISPUTE.

WELLINGTON, Alarch 1. The secretary of the Carpenters’ Union says that about 70 men have left their jobs since Friday as a result of the employers’ decision to limit the wage to 2s 9d an hour. He says the union is not applying coercion on the point, and some members have adapted the reduced wage; but these are comparatively few. An interesting development is the decision of the union to engage, under the guild system, in the business of building or altering houses, believing it can compete successfully with the present contractors.
