In the Seddonville-Mokihinui district the State ran to death a coal mine (says tho Westport News). It said it could not pay and closed up the mine. In the same district to-operative miners are now working and are making great money, reported to lie in some of the mines £5 to £7 per day. Pays are alleged to run into £IOO to £l2O per month per man. It is stated that a. tenth sluiro in one of the mines is changing hands at something like £I2OO. The miners are making this big money and selling the coal at tho ruling prices. Advocates of State mining have in the Mokihinui State failure and private enterprise suodtss, something to ponder over.
