Time, 22sec, which is equal to the New Zealand record. Wellington won the Championship Shield by the narrow margin of 1 point from Auck- ' land. The scores were: Wellington, 63 points; Auckland, 52 points; Canterbury, 7 points. The athletic championship meeting wae a great success in every respect, although no new' records were established. George ) Davidson, the Auckland sprinter, equalled the New Zealand record in the 220 Yards Championship. When the course was remeasured it was found to be four feet over the standard, which was unfortunate for Davidson. There were several fea-tures of tho afternoon. One of them was the misfortune ' of the Canterbury crack middle-distance runner (Taylor), who was spiked on his first appearance in the Half-mile Race, and, V though he won the race in good time, he was unable to run again, and had to have hospital attention. This undoubtedly lost the ' Canterbury team a number of points. The other feature of the events was the unexpected appearance of the two Auckland champions in field events, which were looked ' upon as a gift to the Wellington men. G. A. Plummer did a groat performance in covering 45ft Sin in the Hop, Step, end Jump, and W. J. Perry got within six inches of the New Zealand record in the Broad Jump. Another surprise was the performance of R. ' M Webber in winning the Mile and Threemile races. Dave Wilson, a veteran of 45 ■ years, came out and won the Mile and Threemile Wallas. It is 25 years since ho first became the Now Zealand amateur champion walker. His action was the subject of comment from the crowd, but it passed muster with the judge, who followed him closely all > through. Two interesting events which were not on the championship programme resulted as fol- > lows: Disc Throw.—P. Munro (Wellington) and J. M'Holm (Wellington). The only competitors. Distance 114 ft Bin. / Javelin Throw,—E G. Sutherland (Wellington), 1; P. Munro (Wellington), 2. The only competitors. Distance 13416.
