PETEK PAN

February 25. Dear “Pasquin,”—An arrival by the Athenic from London this week was Madame Jessie Strathearn, who is here on behalf of the Mission at West Ilam, London. New Zealand “Diggers” will remember her as “The One-horse Show,” wheix she gave delightful entertainments for them at the front. She sang to the first New Zealanders and Australians who arrived on the scene at Etaples. Befox-e the battle of Arras she considers that she accomplished a record, as she gave “the boys” no less than 49 songs. Madame Strathearn sings both contralto and soprano songs, and is a raconteur as well. Madame is the daughter of the Rev, John Strathearn, who came out to New Zealand many years ago as assistant to the Rev. Dr Salmond, of Dunedin. The New Zealand “Diggers” postponed their opening at the Grand Opera lloxise until to-morrow night. Baisdin, a cyclist who does extraordinary tricks in the most nonchalent way, is one of the stars in the bill at His Majesty’s. Ne wcomers next week will be Emerald and Dupre, and Phil Percival returns. “Ferry the Frog,” who arrived at Wellington this week from Sydney, went on to Dunedin.
