KNAPDALE ESTATE.

r l he homestead block of what was originally one of the largest areas of good agricultural and grazing land in Southland will be offered for* sale at Gore on Saturday, March 5. It comprises 656 acres, and will be offered in two lots of 45G acres and 200 O-cres respectively. This will give an opportrinity to buyers of securing either the whole or portion of what now remains of one of the best and most favourably known estates in the province. Knapdale was acquired by the late Alexander M'iSfab about 60 years ago, but latterly it was the home of his son, the late Hon. Ur M'lNfab, who in his time did much both publicly and privately to forward the interests of the district and community, in which be was very much respected and highly esteemed. Unfortunately his death has necessitated the realising of the property, and in consequence it will be offered by publio auction on the date already mentioned. A number of years ago it was converted into a model stud farm, and has been carried on as such with great success. It is well laid off with shelter plantations, and the greater part of the land has been limed. The improvements are extensive. The buildings are practically all new, substantially built on modern lines, with everything connected which is necessary for the facility of advantageously carrying on the work of the farm. The land has been carefully farmed, and is in good condition. It grows good crops of all descriptions, and is particu-

larly well adapted for the purposes for which it is used. The quality of the stock raised and carried speaks for itself, and indicates exceptionally- good results. On the Wednesday following the land sale the whole of the valuable stock of purebred Shorthorn cattle and Romney Marsh shec-p will be sold, together with the crossbred stock o.nd farm plant. The cuttle comprise two imported sires of exceptional merit, and the stud both in cattle and sheep ha-s show ring records which should command the attention of breeders from all parts of the dominion.
