New Zealand-made cement is now quoted at £lO Bs. In 1914 it was worth only £3 10s per ton. Kaka Point is at present the scene of an interesting industry, the preparation of kelp bags in which to pack the muttonbirds secured during the coming annual “kill.” Kaka Point, it appears, is the principal centre of the kelp-bag industry, tho groups of rocks which stud the beach-line forming the best known ground for the particular form of kelp used in the muttonbird harvest (reports the Mataura Ensign). In consequence there occurs at this time each year a forgathering of Maoris, who with (he resident Natives are daily to he seen busily manufacturing the receptacles for the succulent “feathered fish” of the southern isles.
