GALE AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, April 9. One of the worst southerly storms experienced for some time was felt in Wellington to-day. Some damage has been done to trees and fences. The gale, which raged throughout the day, has disorganised shipping. There was only one sailing to-day—namely, the Moeraki, for Sydney. The vessels held up hero on account of the weather include the Marv roa (which will pick up her running on Saturday), the Nikau for Nelson, and tb.3 City of Agra for Sydney.. At Picton the Pateena is held up. The Port Napier is hove to in the straits, and the Kaitangata i 3 sheltering at Long Island. The Suffolk is at sea, bound from Napier to Lyttelton. AUCKLAND, April 8. - The rainfall for 24- hours/ to 9 a.m, today, was 4.20 inches. MARCH RAINFALLS. Mr W. Jaeobsen, engineer at the Dunedin Drainage Board's pumping station, has kindly supplied us with the rainfall in the month of March for the past 15 years. The records, of course, have been taken at the pumping station. It its" interesting to note that on two occasions only during the 15 year 3 has there been a rainfall less than was recorded in the month iust past. The details are as fellow:—-■.
