LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT.

TIMARU, March 10. As the second express north was entering the Temuka Station a six-horse team, with an empty wagon, was just leaving a store, after unloading, and essayed to cross Denmark street crossing, though the warning bells were ringing. A second sixhorse team was following closely, and it is supposed that the noise of the two teams prevented the driver from hearing the bells. The engine-driver had not time to pull up to save a collision. The engine crashed into the leaders, and carried one of them nearly to the platform. Two horses were killed outright, a third had to be shot, and a fourth was seriously injured. The team belonged to Mr W. 11. Thornlcy, and the driver was Mr E. Tarrant. Tile three horses were valued at £IOO.
