CANTERBURY SHEEPOWNERS' UNION

GOVERNMENT FULLY ALIVE TO SITUATION. CHRISTCHURCH, February 26. At a meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Sheepowners' Union to-day, Mr H. D. Acland reported on the results of the conference recently held in Wellington, and drew the attention of members to the necessity of the union being well represented at Wellington at any conference that may be called to deal -with matters affecting the industry. Mr Westenra pointed out that when the resolutions passed at the recent conference were sent to the Prime Minister for transmission to the Imperial Government, it was found that Mr Massey had already sent much stronger representations on all three matters dealt with at the conference. This went to show that the dominion Government was fully alive to the situation, and was doing it 3 utmost to grapple with the extraordinary conditions prevailing, and was keenly looking after the interests of the producers of the dominion. Other members expressed their appreciation of the Government's efforts in this direction. Mr Bethell moved that the president, with two members of committee, be appointed delegates to represent the Canterbury sheepowners at any future conference held in Wellington dealing with wool, meat, and other produce. The motion was carried.
