SCHOOL OF JOURNALISTS.
MR ROBERT BELL'S HANDSOME GIFT. CHRISTOHURCH, January 26. Mr Robert Bell's gift of £3CCO to the Canterbury College to establish a School of Journalism was brought before the Board of Governors of Canterbury College to-day, -when Mr Bell's letter conveying the gift and setting forth the conditions was read. Mr Acland (chairman) moved that the letter be received, that the board gratefully accept the generous gift and write Mr Bell thanking him, and that the conditions should be referred to the Professorial Board for consideration and report. He said it was satisfactory to note in connection with the gift that Mr Bell had not waited for a letter to be written by his executors, but had made the gift in his lifetime. That fact showed Mr Bell's very great generosity. It was noticeable that within the past yiear Canterbury College had received far more in the way of gifts such as Mr Bell's or gifta by wills than it received m the whole of the previous 46 years of its existence. He hoped the example sot by Mr Bell would be followed by other Canterbury .citizens.
