PATRIOTIC AND RECRUITING COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Patriotic and Recruiting Committee was held in the secretary's board room on Tuesday, 2nd inst. . Lieu-tenant-colonel Stoneham presided. It was resolved to send a message of sympathy to Mrs J. Ruston in regard to the death of her husband. The Chairman stated that tho meeting had been called to wind up the business of the Recruiting Committee. The Secretary submitted a statement of the receipts and payments in connection with tho fund, showing a credit of £3O lis 6d. Mrs Macfie moved —"That tin's committee, before disbanding, wishes to place on record tho valuable and self-sacrificing work done by the chairman (Lieutenantcolonel Stoneham)." The mover stated that in the early stages of the wa~r his services were invaluable, and until conscription came into force he spared neither his timo nor his_ energy in an endeavour to obtain recruits for the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. —Tho motion was carried unanimously.
