CRICKET.
The committee of the Otago Cricket Association is inviting Southland to send a representative team to play Otago on Christmas Day, and is asking Wellington to arrange a match to commence at Dunedin on New Year’s Day. The Canterbury Association is invited to suggest dates in February for a match to be played at Christchurch Iretween Otago and Canterbury representative teams. LOCAL CLUB MATCHES. Senior Grade. — Carisbrook A scored 112 against Cansbrook B. The latter lost 3 wickets for 5 runs when stumns were drawn. Dunedin scored 111 in the first innings against Bt. Kilda, the latter losing 6 wickets for 14 when jilay ceased. Grange put together 131 runs in the first innings against Albion, the latter having 6 wickets down for 67 when stumps were drawn. Mornington defeated Christian Brothers by an innings and 27 runs. Second Grade. — Y.M.O.A. have a. lead of 29 runs in the first innings against Grange. Mornington scored 113 to 57 hy the Christian Brothers. St. Kilda put together 93 and 58 for 7 wickets against Mornington. The latter scored 54 in the first innings. Third Grade.— Harris and Son defeated M'Glaehan College by seven wickets. Grange defeated High School B by an - innings and) 17 runs. —League Cricket. — Railway, 113 runs (Swinney 44, King 24 not out, Williams 11), defeated Heid and Gray 60 (M'Dougall 19, Simpson 13, J. M'Grath 12). Howie and Swinney shared the bowling honours for Railway, as did Hodge, M‘Donald, M'Dougall, and Morgan for Reid and Gray. WAITAKI v. OTAGO BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOLS. The annual matches between the first and second elevens of the Waitaki and Otago Boys’ High Schools were commenced yesterday. The wickets were very soft, and the rain in the afternoon interfered with play, the games having to be stopped on one occasion. . In the first innings in the senior match neither team did anything of note, the bowling of Douglas, of Otago, puzzling his opponents. Waitaki, in the second innings, shaped much bettor, and! Craig is to be congratulated on his score of 42, a large part of which was made in. the rain. Otago, with eight wickets in hand and 122 to make to secure victory, will continue their second innings this morning. ’ » ■ The match between the Waitaki and Otago Boys’ High Schools was concluded on Saturday, and resulted m a win for Waitaki by 29 runs. In the junior match Waitaki in their first innings marie 83 runs, ancf in their second innings have lost six wickets for 210 runs. Oto-go mad© 63 in the first innings. The game will be resumed this morning. In the junior match, Waitaki declared their second innings closed with 7 wicket 3 down for 217 runs (Maloney 23, Kingston 39, Lee 23, Sumpter 90, and Searle 35). This gave them e. total for the two innings of 300. Ota-go replied with GO, making them altogether 123, and so Waitaki had an easy win. HJiATHCOTE-WILI/lAMS SHIELD. AUCKLAND, November 28. The Auckland Grammar School retain the Heaihcote-Williams Cricket Shield by defeating King's College to-day by eight wickets. In their first innings yesterday King's College ©cored 140 (Murray 22, jL'fiilips 43). Bowling for the. Grammar School Dunning took live wickets for 70 runs, Jaggs two for 35, and Bunns one for 24. Grammar School replied with 118 (Badeley 55, Postles 27). Bowling for King's .College, Philips look four wickets for 32, Gee three for 15, and Heard one' for 27. In their eecond innings King's College had scored 65 for the loss of three wickets. Continuing to-day the innings cloesd for 136 (Farquhar 34, Gee 28). Bowling for Grammar School, Postles took eight wickets for 25, Badeley one for 20, and Dunning one for 22. Grammar School knocked off the deficiency for the loss of only two wickets, Badeley scoring 36, - Pestles 58 not out, and Stretton 56 not out. For King's College Heard took one wicket for 65 and Gee one for 35. The New Plymouth High School play Grammar School for the Shield on December 16-17. AUCKLAND, November 27. The Heathcote Williams Shield match between the Grammar School (holders) and King's College (challengers) was commenced to-day. King's College won the toss, and scored 140 runs. The Grammar School replied with*. 118 runs. In the second innings King's College have scored 65 runs for the loss of three wickets. NEW SOUTH WALKS v. RETURNED SOLDIERS. In the match against a Returned Soldiers' team New South Wales made 190 in their first innings, and lost three wickets for 156 in the second. The Soldiers made 400 for the loss of six wickets (Macartney, Sydney, 138). The match was drawn. " INTER-STATE MATCH. In the inter-State cricket mach New South Wales made 300 (Kippax 93, Toler 51). Queensland have lost two wickets for 90, Sheppard having made 54. A.I.F. TEAM v. SOUTH AFRICA. . CAPETOWN, November 25. South Africa, in their second innings, scored 359 (Zulch 133, Ward 62, not out). The Australian made the requisite 47 runs for two wickets, thus winning by eight wickets. Blackenburg captured two Australian wickets for 11 runs. t*j the second test match the South Africans in their first innings made 118 funs. Australia, made 114 for_ the loss of two wickets. In their second inings South Africa had lost four wickets for 83 runs when rain stopped the play. TEST MATCH. CAPETOWN, November 29. In the second test match, Australians v. South Africa, the latter had made 83 for four wickets when rain stopped play. .
