PROHIBITION IN SAMOA
(By Cable.) LONDON, November 3.
The Press Association has received the following message by wireless from Apia, signed "Croudace, chairman": "A large and representative public meeting of British, Allied, and neutral citizens unanimously passed the following resolutions, which have been handed to the Administration :
"First, this meeting wishes to emphatically protest against the high-handed action of the authorities in establishing prohibition in this territory by military proclamation. We claim that, if prohibition is necessary here, we, the residents, are the right ones to decide the question, and should have been consulted, whereas the use of the powerful machinery of militarism was impartially obeyed during the war, but now, 12 months after the war has ceased, it is intolerable. It has raised intense indignation and distrust among us, and we urgently insist that such a despotic and utterly uncalled-for measure be withdrawn immediately. "Secondly, that a petition be signed and presented to the Administration with a request that it be forwarded to the proper authorities in New Zealand. "Third, that a copy of the petition be forwarded to the Colonial Office through the High Commissioner of the Western Pacific."
The message adds that ■ the petition which is being eagerly signed, will be forwarded by mail.
