The musical and elocutionary competitions were coramenee<l ' to-day. The entries number 1835, and constitute a dominion record. Recitation, Ladies (16 and under 21). — Miss Fanny Kutner 1, Mies Drucy Turner (Christchurch) 2. • Song by New Zealand Composer, Ladies. — Mrs Johns (Wang'anui) 1, Mrs Wiidish (Giftborne) 2, Miss Aslin (Dunedin) 3. CHILDREN'S DAY. WELLINGTON, November 9. Saturday was children's day_ at the musical and elocutionary competitions, most of the c'asses being for juniors. Among thoso decided were the following: Song in Character, 12 to 16 years.—Jame3 Grieve (Christchurch) 1, Rita Arnold (Wellington), 2, Winnie Beck (Dunedin) 3. Bass Solo.—R. F. Lafferty (Christchurch) 1. Vocal Duet.—Miss J. Snelling and H. Phipps' 1. Action Recitation, 12 to 16 years.—Mavis Ritchie (Christchuroh) 1, Winnie Beck (Dunedin) 2, Muriel Freeman (Timaru) 3. Recital, with Musical Accompaniment, 16 to 21 years.—B. Thomson (Dunedin) 1, F. Kutner 2, L. H. J. Power 3. We are informed that on the opening day of the competitions Winnie Beck was second in the Humorous Recitation, 12 and under i. 6 years.
Lawrence William Abnor Sherwood went ■hooting at Manufcuko on October 26. He was seen next day on Messrs Black Broa's ftation by his sister and brother, who treat towards him, but he cleared into the
bush, and has not - been seen since. A. search party of returned soldiers and the police left to look for him. Sherwood was missinfr in July for several days, but turned up again.
