.'he deepest, known lake is Lake Baikal, in Siberia, with a depth of about 4500 ft. There is another lake, however, whieh does not seern "o have been measured, and which is believed to be deeper. This is the Great Sunken Lake, in the Cascade Mountains. Ic lies in a hollow of the moimtair range, which rises all round its ]to an average height of 2000 ft.
