DEMANDS FILED. WELLINGTON, November 4-.
Tho demands of the Wellington section of the Australasian Institute of Marine Engineers have been filed. The monthly schedule of wages asked is: Chief, or only engineer: Under 20nominal horse-power, £26; 20 to 40, £2B; 40 to 60, £2B 10s; 60 to 80, £29; 80 to 100, £3l; 100 to 150, £32. Second engineers: Under 80 nominal horse-power, £23; 80 and under 150, £24. Third engineers: Under 100 nominal horse-power, £2O; 100 to 150, £2l 10s. When vessels are engaged on an excursion on Sundays or public holidays, it is demanded that each engineer be paid an extra day's sea pay. The allowance asked for victualling and accommodation is: Chief or sole engineer, lis a day; others, 10s a day, or 50s a week.
The parties cited to the dispute are the Anchor Company, the Nelson and Canterbury Steamship Company, tho Coastal Steamship Company (Wellington), T. Eckford and Co. (Blenheim), the Iron and Steel Company of New Zealand (Dunedin), the Kaiapoi Shipping and Trading Company Miller Bros (Port Chalmers), Now Zealand Refrigerating Company, the Orepuki Shipping Company, Opihi Shipping Company (Christchurch), the Pa tea Farmers' Cooperative Freezing Company, Richardson and Co. (Port Ahuriri), the South Taranaki Snipping Company (Wellington), Stevenson, Stewart, and Co. (Christchurch), the Wakatu Shipping Comany (Wellington), John, Limited (Wellington), the Southern Steamship Company (Dunedin), tho owners of the Huia (New Plymouth), the Manawatu Shipping Company (Wellington), and the Wairau Steamship Company (Wellington).
