Postal Theft.—Louie Inglis, a waitress, 29 years of age, was charged with the theft, on July 7. of two parcels from the Post Office, the property of the Postmastergeneral.—The facts were that two parcels containing women's clothing and jewellery had been consigned to Dunedin, one addressed to a Miss Inglis and the other to Miss 0. Inglis. These the accused had collected and signed for, and although eho afterwards discovered tbey were not intended for her, she retained them in her possession.—Frank Ernest Webber, postal cadet at the Dunedin parcels offics, said that lie had signed the notification cards produced. At that time there was a parcel addressed to Miss Inglis and another for Misg O. Inglis awaiting delivery at tho parcels office. On July 7 last a young woman presented the cards and received delivery of both parcels. She' signed tho receipt book. " Mies L. Inglis." The department had received a complaint .that tha two parcels had not been delivered to tho person for whom they were intended.— Detective-sergeant Cn moron gave evidence that on the 17th inst. ho interviewed tho accused, when she made a statement admitting that she had reosived the parcels. From her room she handed him several articles contained in the parcels. On op/n----ing the parcels she knew that they were not intended for her. She kept them for a while, and was then ashamed to take them back. Some of the clothing ehe had burnt in a grate.—Mr B. S. Irwin, on tho accused's behalf, plpaded guilty, and she was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence. —Chief Detective Bishop mentioned that the accused had been convicted in 1909 at Auckland on six charges of theft. She wa& then in tho company of a.nother woman, a well-known character, who had on that occasion been sent to gaol.—Bail was allowed, self in £IOO and t,wo sureties of £SO, conditional on the accused keeping in daily touch with the 'probation officer.
