SHOOTING AFFRAY.

RETURNED SOLDIER INJURED. GISBORNE, September 22. A shooting affray occurred on Saturday night. A , returned soldier named Alfred Eastwood and a man named Whitely saw a man named Thomas Innes carrying some timber, which they believed he had takea from sewerage works in the vicinity. They asked him where he Avas taking it 'to, and Innes, it is alleged, retorted: "If you don't get away I will shoot you," and. producing a revolver, he shot Eastwood in the groin. Some passcrsby bailed Innes up against a fence, and, relievine: him of his weapen, detained him till the police arrived. Innes was arrested on charges of theft, and causing bodily harm. Eastwood's injuries, it is believed, are not serious.
