INFLATED VALUES.
CHRISTCHUROH, September 16. At a meeting of the Canterbury Land BoarcT a soldier applied for an advance of £670 to purchase a suburban property, the pre-war value of which was stated to be £425. No improvements had been effected. The application was promptly refused, and tho following motion was carried:—"ln all cases where an exorbitant price is asked "in excess of pre-war values, without improvements or additions having been made, the board should the application and recommend the applicant to erect a new dwelling."
Messrs A. and G. Price (Limited) havd secured a Go-vernmsnt contract for 20 express A and B class locomotives. This will mean from three to four' years' work, providing: employment for a, considerable number of- extra hands at Thames.
