DISTRIBUTION OF WAR TROPHIES.
AUCKLAND, August 6. A deputation representing the Auckland City Council War Memorial Committee and the Auckland Museum authorities waited upon the Prime Minister to enlist his assistance in securing for the new War Memorial Museum to be erected in the Domain a fair ; share of the trophies to be sent out to the dominion. The Prime Minister said he knew that a very large number of war trophies had been collected in London to be forwarded, including several hundred machine guns and approximately about 150 field guns. It would be absurd to have all these guns stacked up in Wellington, and he had not the slightest doubt that there would be something in the shape of an equitable distribution among the various centres and museums. The centres * which, had sent large numbers of soldiers to the war should have something to perpetuate the recollections of what their men had done. He promised the deputation that he . would take early opportunity to discuss the matter with Sir James Allon v and would send them a definite answer at an early date.
