DEATH OF A WIDOW.

DUE TO PTOMAINE POISONING. CHRISTCHURCH, June 6. The inquest was resumed to-day into the death of Mrs Mary Theresa Williams; who died on May 30 from supposed ptomaine poisoning. The Government Analyst gave evidence that the meat examined was perfectly wholesome. From his examination he was of opinion that the food (pressed beef) decomposed in the body of the deceased after being eaten, the decomposition being due to the state of the deceased's intestines. The following verdict was returned: "The deceased died from ptomaine poisoning, brought on by eating pressed beef, which, by reason of her' diseased state, she was incapable of digesting. The meat itself was quite wholesome, and would havo been innocuous to a healthy person."
