May 31.-There has been a break in the fine weather experienced for the past few weeks. On Sunday morning heavy rain fell, and on Monday night and thioughout Tuesday there, were snow showers. ine snow did not lie on the low country, but the high country has got a good coating. J.ne weather cleared on Wednesday, and since then hard frost has been experienced. Accident.—An unfortunate accident happened at Arrowtown on Wednesday afternoon during the progress of a_ football match between Queenstown and Arrow teams. Shortly after play had started.in the second spall Bert Farrant, one of the Queenstown players, slipped and fell, breaning his leg below the knee. Dr Stewart, 01 Queenstown, was sent for, and the unfortunate young man's injuries -were attended to. 1 Football.—The match referred to was the first between the two teams for some considerable time, and up to the time of the accident the game was a most interesting one. Queenstown scored 3 points (a penalty goal) in the first spell, and Arrow had just Bcoredl 4 points (a potted goal) shortly before the acoident, when the match was abandoned. Mr G. B. Burns (Queenstown) controlled the game to the satisfaction of both teams. , -it •Welcome-home Social—Another social to ■welcome home soldiers recently returned from the front was held in Arrowtown on Wednesday evening. The guests on this occasion were Sergeant W. O. Bendall and Gunner Thomas H. Reid. There. was a large attendance, and the two men were presented With the customary medals. Mr G. H. Romans, chairman of the Reception Committee, presided, and made the presentations, Rev. J. Rattray also making an appropriate address. Mr Rosevear (Bunedm) contributed two songs. Personal.—Mr J. Miller, W.M of Lake Lodge of Ophir (Queenstown), and Mr D. R. Banon,. W.M. of Lodge Arrow Kilwinning, left for Christchurch on Monday to represent their lodges at the Masonic communication held theer during the week.— Private Thomas Fitzpatrick, son .of Mrs Fitzpatrick, returned home on Saturday evening after over two years' service.
