PTOMAINE POISONING.

DEATH OF A WIDOW. OHRISTCHURCH, June 2. An inquiry was held yesterday into the cause of the death of Mrs M. T. Williams, a widow, who died suddenly on Friday. 11. F. Holloway, a nephew of the deceased, at whose residence the latter ha«d been residing for some time past, stated that he had purchased pressed beef on Thursday for the evening meal. Witness, his mother, his wife, and child, and the deceased all partook of the meat, and he, his wife, and deceased were taken ill, but not the others. As deceased appeared to become worse, medical aid was obtained. Dr Mickle gave evidence that death was due to ptomaine poisoning. He reported the case to the District Health Officer, Dr VViddowson who made a post mortem examination, 'and said,' that in his opinion, death was due to ptomaine poisoning. The inquest was adjourned till June 0 to enable the remaining portion of the pressed beef to be analysed by the Government analyst.
