FARMERS' FIRE INSURANCE.

The annual report of the directors of the Otago -Farmers' Union Mutual fire Insurance Association records a successful year's business. The association has now completed 14 years, and has been well supported, thoroughly justifying the starting of same. The object of the association, as all are aware, is to reduce rates for fire insurance to farmers, as it was considered that the rates charged, by outside companies were too high, and were really levied to pay for town losses. Farmers' insurance, it has always been claimed, is a safe fire insurance risk. The year was closed with total insurances of £294,802, being a considerable increase for the year. As the directors have been frequently asked as to

the accident* insurance business being added to ~the fire, it Is a pleasure to report mat this branch has been started. It i* proposed to take accident insurance only from those who have placed their fire insurance business with the Mutual, as the director* consider it only fair that those who hav» supported the Mutual with their fire business should have the benefit of the low rates oharged by the association for accident as well.
