CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
The following are the entries and draws for the Otago Provincial Chess Championships, which commenced at the club rooms, Y.M.C.A. building, at 10 a.m. on the 2nd inst. and continued ell the week: — Senior Championship.—Class A: L. D. Coombs, W. G Stenhouse, J. Edwards, O. Amtman. Class B: R. A. Clellarid, A. E. Ward, 0. Balk, Rev. N. A. Friberg. Junior Championship.—First draw: C J. Watson v. R. J. Penrose, J. O. Chapman v. C. H. Black, F. Warman v. W. H. M*Connochie, H H. Henderson v. D. H. Hastings. Each player in trie Junior Championship has seven games to play, and the winner will be found . from the majority of wins. In" ; the Senior Championship the winners of each sectipa will meet in the final. This is the first time that any chess club has attempted, to run provincial championships. Great interest is being taken in chess circles throughout the dominion in the experiment, and it is hoped that it will become an annual event.
