Greymouth wrote to the Colonial Secretary at Suva, and forwarded him a copy ,of Mr Howard’s statement. He has just received the following reply: “ Under Ordinance No. 1, 1892, provision is made for tho protection of newly-manned immigrants as well as others, And section 17 of tho Ordinance provides a heavy penalty in reepoot to any person interfering with tho wife of an immigrant .The provisions of this section are explainer! by Immigration officers to immigrants on arrival in the colony.’
