The Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting was opened in splendid weather, hut the course was holding consequent upon the recent heavy rains. There was a very large attendance, and the totalisation: handled £60.238, as against £59,453 10s on the corresponding clay last year. ', Ulster took command entering on the last round from Bore and Tenacious. Ulster led over the last jump, but was immediately challenged by Tenacious. There wao a large crowd! present at the Taratahi-Gaxterton meeting, which waa held in beautiful weather. The totalisatox handled £12,715, which ia £2474 ahead, of the figures for the last meeting, which was held In 1916. The winner of the Cup was decorated with a gold ribbon by Mr Howard Booth, on© of the vice-presidents. After referring to the horse's victory Mr Booth referred to the aerial feat of Major Hawker, the aviator, and three rousing cheers were given for him for his pluck in attempting a non-stop flight •cross the Atlantic.
