AMENDED REGULATIONS. WELLINGTON, May 30. > An amending regulation under the Publia Service Act has been -issued authorising preference to returned soldiers. The regulations states that appointments will be made according to order of merit in the list of applicants who haye passed the entrance examination, provided that if any person is available and otherwise eligible who has passed the entrance examination, he shall take precedence over candidate* who have passed entrance examination only j and provided, further, that the commissioner may, if be thinks fit, give preierence to a member of New Zealand's Expeditionary Force who has beep honourably discharged, and who has passed the entrance examinatiop or its equivalent. Applications for positions must state xn what capacity and in what departments they are willing to accept appointment.
