ST. JOHN'S CHURCH, WAIKOUAITI.

The adjourned annual meeting of parishioners of St. John's Church, Waikouaitl, was held on Wednesday evening and took the form of a parish tea, provided by tha Ladies' Guild and others, in the sohoolroom. The vioar (Rev. E. J. Neale) presided over a good attendance of parishioners at the meeting which, followed. The report showed the necessity for growth in all departments of church life and work, and made reference to the cessation of hostilities in November, 1918, and the return of many young soldiers to their homes in the < district. It also pointed out the desirability of commemorating the sacrifico made by the "non-returning brave." The diamond jubilee festival, held in the early part of the year, had proved a great success in every way, and the commemorative brochure, so attractively got up by the Otago Daily Times Company, had 6old well, very few copies being left on hand. The balance sheet showed an all-round increase in revenue, ,and the year olosed with a credit balance in the vestry's account of £49 3s 4d, and unexpended balance from the festival of £3l lis 3d; making a total of £BO 14s 7d. The usual amounts were contributed to mission funda during the year, in addition to which the Sunday school paid £5 to the Malanesian mission and £5 to the brick scheme in connection with the Anglican Boys' Home at Vauxhall. The whole parish also contributed £55 3s to this latter fund, as a result of a direct appeal last July. Tho sum of £27 from tha festival account had been placed in tho P.O. Bank, towards a fund to purchase a water engine for the church organ. Tho report and balance > sheet were adopted, after * brief discussion.

The vicar reappointed Mr Robert Templeton as his churchwarden, and Mr Arthur Heckler was unanimously re-elected parishioners' churchwarden. The following were elected as vestrymen:—Messrs T. Allcock, Francis, Hallett, F. Jones, _H. Townsend; and Goodwood representative, Mr J. H. Preston, leaving one to be co-opted for Waikouaiti. Mr E. Davis was reappointed auditor.

A oertain sum was voted towards a parish memorial to the fallen in the great war, and the form decided upon was a mural tablet of brass, suitably worded. Friends and relatives were invited to help towards the cost. It was unanimously agreed to connect the vicarage with the local telephone bureau, and other special paymentswere authorised, one being a further donation to the water engine fund.

A very successful meeting closed with the benediction by the chairman.
