SCHOOL OF MINES.
Among a mass of typewritten matter xareceived_at Monday's meeting - of the University Council was the report of the School of Mine 3, of which the following is a copy: "For the session of 1918, the Sfchool of Mines showed an attendance of 13 students. of whom 12 were registered for the full asoociatesllip course. All passed the term examinations,* except one in mathematics and one in mechanics. Three students in their second yea*, on reaching the age of 20, volunteered for active service during the, first term. During the second term the Dean of the Faculty formulated a scheme for lengthening the course of study for the Associates-hip in Slining from three to four years. The faculty unanimously resolved to recommend the University Council to extend the courses of study in all the ■divisions to four years. The revised syllabus and course of 'study were approved by the council at its October meeting. The separation of the Associa.te.ship into the (tthree divisions of mining, metallurgy, and geology is still retained. For the first three yearj the course is common to all, and specialisation begins in the fourth year. Additional advanced courses in workshop practice have been introduced. The report was received.
