May 10.-'-For the past week the weather has been fine, which means, at this time of year, hard frost at night and bright, sunny days. Queenstown Regatta Club.—At a meeting of committee the secretary submitted a statement in connection with tho recent - regatta, which showed that the receipts were £ll3 Is 9d, and expenditure £lll 10s lOd. Appreciation was expressed at the manner in which the secretary (Mr G. B. Burns) had carried out his duties, and he was -voted an honorarium of £5 ss. Votes of thanks were passed to the starter (Mr J. Galbraith) and umpire (Mr M. E. Priest) for their valued services at the regatta; also to Messrs H. Mackenzie and Sons for the use of their launch, and the Railway Department for the steamer Mountaineer lent as flagship. . Wedding.—A marriage of district interest was celebrated at the South Dunedin Presbyterian Church on the 30th ult. The contracting parties were Mr John H. Davis, son of the late Mr W. L. Davis, Queens- / town, and Miss Margaret Riley, second daughter of Mrs Riley, St. Kilda. The officiating clergyman was Rev. R, Fairmaid. Mr and Mrs Davis arrived home to Queenstown on Saturday evening last, when the Queenstown Brass Band, of which Mr Davis is a member, turned out in force to give them a welcome. Personal.—Private J. M. Butel. son of Mr and Mrs J. Butel, Arrowtown, arrived home on Saturday evening. He left with the Twenty-sixth Reinforcements, and was severely wounded in the face in August last. At the last meeting of the Southland Education Board Miss Mina Gray was appointed teacher of the Gibbston School, and Myll Carter teacher of Carctrona School.— At the meeting of the Southland Presbytery on Tuesday Rev. 'R. C. Hunter resigned the charge of Queenstown in view of his intention to return to. Scotland in August next. A committee consisting of Revs. D. K. Fisher and J. Tylee was appointed to visit Queenstown and consult with the congregation regarding ■ tho resignation.
