WOOL AnD SHEEPSKIN SALES.
(By Cable.) LONDON, May 1. At the Liverpool wool sales 11,924 balea were offered, half from Queensland and half from New South Wales, and all were sold. There was a poor selection, both of merinos and crossbred, but there was keen competition from the home trade. ■ No buying for export was allowed from this sale. Merinos and fine crossbreds were selling at 5 per cent, above the last sale} low crossbreds remained unchanged. The Bradford wool. market is exceedingly firm. Quotations for both merinos and crossbreds are still advancing. At* the London sheepskin sales there was a large attendance and good competition. Crossbreds, combings, and merinos showed a 10 per cent, advance on last allocation sale. There was a good demand for burry wools, faulty . pelta reaching the prices ruling at the last allocation. There was some buying on French and Belgian account, but none by America or neutrals..
May 5. The Bradford wool market is firm, and a good inquiry continues for merinos and fine cross-breds.
r- May 6. The -wool sales opened briskly." Prices axe from par to 5 per cent, advance aa compared with the April sales. Fine crossbreds and merinos advanced 5 per cent; medium and low are unchanged. . ■ Competition was less keen for sheepskins, of which 10,700 were offered at auction, nearly all being sold. Prices for fine crossbreds and good combings were on a par with those at last allocation, bat faulty lots were cheaper. A fair quantity of skins was bought for France and Belgium, but most were secured for the homo trade. At the -wool sales, 8136 bales were offered, of which 1565 bales were New Zealand. It was a poor selection, but there was a very full attendance of buyers. Competition was hardly so keen as at the April opening sales. For slipes there was a keen demand, super quality being 2d above the April price, and average slipes Id. Super combing merinos advanced bv sd. average merinos being at par. J ' May 7.
At the wool sales prices are hardening. There is keen competition for greasy combing merinos and fine crossbred Bcoureds, but burry short locks and pieces are irregular. The prices realised for New Zealand clips included : Washdyke, top price 72d, average 71£d; WallacetOTvn, top price 40£d, average 33^d.
