Arthur Leo Beon Ashton, a prisoneron tho way to the Invercargil Borstal Institntion, made a sensational escape from the express yesterday. Ashton, who was sentenced for theft at Dunedin to two years' reformative treatment, took advantage of the reduced speed of the train at tho Edendale cutting and made a dash through the carriage to the platform and from there leaped to the ground. Constable Wadge leaped from the train in pursuit. Ashton gained the dense bush adjacent to th© lino and escaped towards the Hokonui Ranges.
Ashton was arrested by Constable Barrett, of Mataura on Friday, and after being locked up all night was taken to Invercargill on Saturday.
