WAIPIATA.
May 3.—The weather during April has been unusually wet, more rain having fallen during this month than any other month during the last five years excepting the flood period of January, 1919. Crops.—Harvesting is being allayed in a number of cases through ground being too soft for the binder.
Opening of New Hall.—This event took place on Easter Monday night, and, despite the bad weather and holiday absentees, there was a large attendance ( which filled the hall. Mr Silas Horo presided over the concert, at which the contributors were well received, Mrs G-. Hore presiding at the piano. A dance followed, _ the musio being contributed by Mr G. Kineman and Mrs K. Pearee.
Concert.—A concert will be given on May 12 by the Dunedin Glee Club in aid of the Hall Fund. Returned Soldier.—A welcome home social was given to Mr Peter Graham on the 2nd inst., and was largely attended. The Rev. Mr Lennox, in a neat speech, welcomed the soldier home, and Miss K. Pearce pinned a medal on his breast as a mark of esteem from the residents of the district.
Shooting.—The shooting season for game opened on Thursday with a good deal of noise; but there are no reports of large bags. Rabbit Industry.—This is flourishing, the factory receiving over 5000 daily. • It is running long hours, and increasing the staff. Football.—As a result of the influx of young men into the town sports are receiving a fillip, and a football team has been formed, and matches are being** arranged against all comers.
