GERMAN ESCAPEES.
THREE MEN SURRENDER. HAWERA, April 23.
Two escapees—William Otting and Walter Mormister —from the Featherston internment oamp turned up at Hawera, where they surrendered to the police. The men, who are steamer firemen, say they have been interned for nearly four years. They want to get back to their country to work. A few months ago they were told that they would be repatriated, but the orders were changed. They felt very disappointed and disgusted, and to bring matters to a head escaped from custody. However, they, had just seen the paper wherein it was "stated that the Willochra was to take the party back at tho end of tho month. They at once gave themselves up to the police to be returned to the camp, and hope that they .will be included in the Willochra draft. The police here are holding the men awaiting instructions from the military authorities. WELLINGTON, April 23. The- Defence Department states that Martin Kock, another of the German escapees, returned to Featherston camp to-day, and gave himself up. Of the six men who escaped, two are still at large. HASTINGS, April 25. Charles Hodler and Alfred Krant, who escaped from Featherston, have been arrested, and will proceed under guard to Wellington to-morrow.
