WEEK'S MINING NEWS

April 24. The return from the Rising Suu ciredge last week was 360 z 19dwt for 130 hours' work. . Tho secretary of the Nokomai Hydiymlic Sluicing Company reports that No. 2 finished the top stripping on Saturday, and elevating was resumed on the same day. No. 3 had a full week's sluicing with two shifts, and the progress made was very fair. The supply of water is good. April 25. The Rise and Shine .No. 1 dredge is Under repa : r this week; and No. 2 broke the crown wheel of the elevator on Tuesday week. It is not proposed to put this dredgo in commission again, as the area of

unworked ground is not beyond the capacity of No. 1 dredge. April 28. The manager of the New Zealand Quicksilver Mines reports: Good ore is being broken from the mine, but the furnace has been giving trouble, and the plant had to be stopped to effect repairs. Otherwise everything is working smoothly, and a good supply of ore is bein stacked ready for treatment shortly. The manager of the Rising Sun dredge reports a return of 470 z 2dwt for a period of 132 hours' dredging. April 29. The latest report of the manager of the Rising Sun mine states that stoping has been continued on No. 1 reef in No. 2 block. The ore broken was of fair grade, and the average width of the reef 2ft. In No. 1 block on No. 2 reef a little stoping has been carried the reef being lift wide and of fair grade. The eastern crosscut has been advanced to 44-ft from No. 3 reef. DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. The Dunedin Stock Exchange reopened on Monday after the holidays. Business was quiet, but prices all round were .firm, and there was a good demand for a number of lines. Bank of New South Wales shares were wanted at £3B 10s, without a seller, a.nd there was inquiry for both issues of Bank of New Zealand, but none on offer. Mosgiel Woollens and National Mortgages also had buyers, but .no sellers, and there was a demand for a number of other lines with few sellers. When the present war loan has been floated there should be more money available for local investment. The following are Monday's latest quotations, subject to the usual brokerage: Dredging Stocks.
