ARBITRATION COURT.

At the iecent sittings of tho Arbitration Court in- B'unedin a number of applications to am<:nd awards were heard. The court has now filed the following amendments:— Tinsmiths. —The flat rate for journeymen is fixed at Is 7gd an hour, w ; .th a bonus of an hour. Engineers.—Tho minimum wage is fixed at Is for journeymen, Is sid for planers, shapers, slotters, and borers for stock catalogue work, with 2-gd bonus to all. Motor Mechanics. —A bonus of 2£d is given, and assistants' wages are increased by 5s per week all round. Range Workers. —The wages are fixed at Is 6d and Is 4£d, with 2£d bonus. The assistants ore increased 5s a week all round.

- Metal Workers' Assistants.—The wages are fixed at Is and Is with a bonus of 2£d. The wages of boys and youths are increased 5s per week. Cycle Mechanics.—A bonus of is given, and assistants are to receive a bonus of 5s per week.

The above orders will come into force on May 12. The overtime clause is altered in accordance with the court's recent memorandum in regard to the basic wage. Tho bo'nus is not taken into account in computing overtime. Although no applications for amendments were made in the iron moulders' and boilermakers' awards, it was intimated, when'the other applications were considered in court, that the employers would agree to similar orders in those two industries, and they will be filed in the course of a few days. Plasterers. —A bonus of 2£d is given. The extra rate for country work is fixed at 3s 4d per day for journeymen and apprentices, instead of at 2s per day in the olcl award.

Farriers.—-A bonus of 2£d is given. Tho piecework rate is fixed at 2s 9d per dozen for shoes up to Win, and 3s 3d per dozen for shoes over 14in.

Rope and Twine Spinners.—ln addition to the„ rates for male workers, as fixed by clause 2, a bonus of 10 per cent, is granted on the said rates. As the award has only 11 months to run, _ the court has not attempted to deal with the rates of wages fixed for the different workers.

In the above three orders the court has inserted the altered overtime clause. They all come into force on May 5. Shift Engineers.—The City Corporation shift engineers have been given a bonus of 5s per week all round, to take effect from May 5. l-

AWARDS IN CHRISTCHURCH < CHRISTCHURCH, April 24. The Arbitration Court has awarded manure, tallow, and soap workers a bonus of 2£d per hour and increased the minimum wage of tailors to £3 15s and tailoresses to 35s for six months after completing apprenticeship and thereafter to 40s. The Christchurch and Timaru quarry workers have been granted a 48-hours week and the following wages:—Certificated men, Is 4sd; others, Is 3£d« in. addition to a bonus of 2£d per hour. In, the moulders' dispute machine moulders have been awarded Is 6£d and 'journeymen moulders Is 7£d, with a bonus of 2£d per hour. Bacon-curers' wages have been fixed as follows: —Head curer, £4 per week; slaughtermen, etc., Is per hour: cellarmen, etc., ,1s 3id per hour; all with bonus of hour. In the local bodies''dispute, rock tunnelmen have been granted Is 7id per hour, clay tunnelmen ls_4£d, and other workers Is 3id per hour, with a bonus of 2£d. The same scale of wages applies to builders', contractors,' and general labourers. In the South Canterbury bakers' dispute the award provides for a 48 hours' week, with wages as follows.—Foreman, £4; journeyman, £3 10s; labourers, £3. In country bakehouses the wages are to be £3 10s (2000 loaves per week), £3 5s (1500 loaves), £3 (1250 loaves), and £2 15s (under 1250 loaves). The South Canterbury painters' award provides for a minimum wage of Is 6d and a bonus of 3d per hour, and the wool and grain, store award for 1 s sgd per hour and a bonus of l£d per hour.

Bulk manure workers are awarded 3d extra, and bagged manure workers extra. \
