VISITING JAPANESE SQUADRON.
WELLINGTON, April 23. The Government has received information that another Japanese squadron will arrive in New Zealand waters in June, and as the vessels will call at Hobart on their way to New Zealand there will arise , the question whether they will be allowed to berth at any wharves in New Zealand without being the subject of the quarantine restrictions. Mr T. Young, Japanese Consul in Wellington,' has applied to the Minister of Public Health to know what will be the position.
Tho Hon. Mr Russell said to day that ho did not think it would be possible to make any exception in favour of the visiting men-of-war. They would have to be subject to tho quarantine- regulations, which might at that time bo in force.
AUCKLAND, April 25. Official advice has been received by tho Honorary Consul to Japan (Mr Heather) that the Japanese training squadron, consisting of the ships Tokiura and Aznma, under the command of Vice-Admiral Nakanp, will visit Auckland shortly. The original" itinerary included several ports in Australia, but information has been received that it has not yet been decided whether the squadron _ will proceed after leaving Fremantle._ This change has been brought about owing to tho epidemic of influenza in the Commonwealth.
