CHESS.

A meeting of the Otago Chess Club Committee was held on the 28th. Mr H. H. Henderson presided. It was decided to hold a chess tournament on June 3 and the three following evenings for tho open senior and junior championships of Otago, the finals to be played on the following. Saturday if necessary. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs S..S. Myers, L. D. Coombs, W. G. Stenhouse, with tho president and the hoii. secretary (Mr D. Harris Hastings) was set up to make tho necessary arrangements, look after the advertising ,etc.

Messrs O. J. Watson and W. H. Allen were appointed a House Committee for the year, and Messrs Stcnhouso and Myers as the Match Committee. Tho remit from the general meeting that the opening of the season be fixed for May 12, and that hjs Worship the Mayor be asked to open the season and present the prizes was agreed to. One new member was elected.
