PRINCESS THEATRE.
In the tabloid musical comedy which was presented at the Princess Theatre by the Walter George Revue Company on the 28th
vaudeville* patrons made tho acquaintance of an old lrjond in a now dress. The ri introduction caused no disappointment, but was en the otlier hand made the occasion for a warm and demonstrative welcome, and during the staging ot the piece the theatre rang with alternate shouts of joyous laughter and outbursts of hearty applause. Sinceit was last made a vehicle ot entertainment in Dunedin "iho Grand Hotel" has been extended and improved upon, and whereas it previously won golden opinions it must now bo acclaimed as one of the best revues ever seen ill this city. It is constructed on tho inconsequential "lines of the orthodox revue; events with the merest shred of a relation to each other occur" in rapid succession; tho various characters come and go at will, and it is of little consequence whether they s ing or dance or speak -so long as they are either mirthful or musical. Monotony is the unforgivable sin in a revue, and it is quite impossible to impute this offence to "Tho Grand Hotel." The production is positively packed with tuneful, lilting gems of melody that gladden the heart and linger in the memory. Two specially enjoyable items in this department were the medley sung by a quintette party, and the specialty number " Jack-in-the-Box" by Georgie Martin and Polly M'Laren. The Beauty Ballet also figures prominently in the production, and the graceful dancing and pretty costuming of the danseuses serve materially to brignten the whole production. The other members of this popular company all have more or less important roles to fill, and they lend valuable assistance in securing the object aimed at, which is to entertain and amuse. The vaudeville portion of the programme is short, but it is remarkably good.
