WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS.
Br Peteb Paw. April 24. The Royal Comics had a glorious opening on Easter Saturday night, the big Opera House being packed with an audience eager for something new. And the crowd was not disappointed, for "Maytime" is a charming play with music—not an opera in the usual sense of the word, mind you, but a play with tuneful music; and it is the play that matters. "Maytime" has a plot! A simple one, yes; but enough to wind around it a charming story. All the well-known artists of the " Comics" display great acting ability; they are quite surprising in this, and reach a high standard. " Maytime " is a play which one call see many times with delight. It has drawn crowded houses all the week, and its season could be safely extended. On Saturday night we are to have another new piece, Oh 1 Oh! Delphine?" Mr Harold Carr, well known in the theatrical world, and now a manager _of a film house, acted as_ judge of elocution at the Napier competitions. Mr Frank Charlton, one of the best and most popular baritones, leaves for Sydney by the next boat, under engagement to J. and N. Tait. Mr Charlton will probably be a member of the Harry Lauder < Company. Mr Borneo Gardiner, the siffleur, will also cross to Sydney under engagement to the same firm. The Nelson operatic Society intends to stage " Paul Jones." Fullers' have been with out a revue company during the past fortnight,'"'and allvaudeville is the rule at His Majesty's. Brightio and Carlyon are the particular stars this week.
