RAILWAY RETURNS.
The railway passenger returns for 'the holidays show a falling off as compared with those for last year, the stormy weather no doubt being the principal cause in preventing people from travelling. On Thursday and Good Friday the bookings for -north of Port Chalmers totalled. 2793, as against 2871 for the two corresponding days last year, and for south of Mosgiel and branch lines to 2384, as compared with 2067 in 1918. The bookings on these two days to individual stations were as follow:—Clyde 228 (280), Timaru 121 (105), Oamaru 293 (303), Waitati 354 (356), Evans-, dale 78 (94), Queenstown 43 (31), Lawrence 165 (99), Owaka 101 (126), InvercargiU 244 The total bookings on Easter Saturday came to 1579 (last year 2552). and-on Easter Monday this year to 1666 (last year 1531).. Not a great number travelled in the special trains to Lawrence and Beaumont on Easter Saturday and Monday respectively, and the suburban traffic fell off considerably" also. To Mosgiel and Port Chalmers forthe Saturday and Monday this year tho total waa 1147, as compared with 1685 last year. . The grand total of bookings for the four, days was 9502, as against 10,247 for tho corresponding four days last year*
