RIFLE SHOOTING

OTAGO ASSOCIATION MEETING. The forty-fifth annual prize-firing of the Otago Rifle Association was begun at the Peliohet Bay Range on .Friday. The meeting started under favourable conditions, but the rain in the afternoon interfered i with the shooting, and upon the conclusion of the President's Match, at about 3 p.m., it was decided to postpone the other matches. The conditions in the matches shot on Friday were a 3 follows: Service Practices:— (1) Snap shooting. Target, second class figure. Distance, 200 yards. Seven rounds, position lying. Fiveseconds exposure. ■ (2) Quick March Match: Moving target. Figure 3 silhouette, target coloured khaki. Range, 200 yards, eight exposures eight yards run, eight shots. Magazines allowed. Direct hits to count three points.—Southland Match: 300 yards, seven shots.—President's Match: 500 yards, seven shots.

To-day the Otago Match (600 yards, seven shots), the North Otago Match (600 yards, 10 shots), the Citizens' Match (500 yards, 10 shots), and the Ladies' Challenge Shield Match (300, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots at each range) will be fired. The championship of Otago will be decided on the results of the two days' shooting, and a Teams' Match will be held in connection, with certain of the other matches. / The results of Friday'3 firing were as follows: —

The Otago Rifle Association fired off the remainder of its annual shooting matches at the Pelichet Bay range on Saturday. A variable wind blew in fitful gusts during the day, but conditions were, however, favourable. In spite of the conditions some creditable scores were registered, Rifleman Bradshaw making 48 out of a possible 50 in the Citizens' Match, and Rifleman M'Keich making 53 out of a possible 35 in the Otago Match.

Reference was made to the death of Captain Lacey, -who had taken a great interest in the association for many years, and those present stood bareheaded for a moment in respect to his memory. The following l are the scores:
