TEVIOT FRUITGROWERS' ASSOCIATION.

(FHOM Oca OWK COBBESFONDENT.) ROXBURGH, April 1

The annual meeting of the Teviot Fruitgrowers' Association was held on Monday evening, about SO growers attending. Mr J. Bennetts presided, and submitted the annual report and balance sheet. The association during the year made purchases on behalf of members to the value of £3386, receiving in discounts £197, which was passed on to members. In addition to this several lines much used by growers were purchased, some on indent for from 30 per cent, to 40 per cent, lower than marKet prices. Several present voiced their appreciation of the exceedingly satisfactory operations of the society and of its management. It was j)ointcd out that a 3 a result of the association's system* o£ purchasing an immense saving had been effected in growers' purchases, and this had been done at a management cost of about 1$ per cent. The adoption of the report and balance sheet was carried unanimously. Mr J. Bennetts was re-eleoted president, Mr J. H. Waigth secretary, Messrs Michelle, George, Waigth, jun., Gilmour, and Aitche-

son Management Committee, and Messrs Graham and Toms auditors. The salary 01 tlio secretary was raised from £4O to £SO. Messrs Toms, Kinaston, and Gilmour were appointed to represent the Teviot Fruit growers' Association at the Provincial Conference to be held in Juno. Considerable discussion arose as to the efficacy of these conferences. Last year's was described as a farce, and since more or less unanimity exists in the same province it wa,a questioned by some growers whether much good results from the holding of these conferences. At the time the proposal to abandon the Dominion Conference was before the association no serious objection was offered to it. but since then there is a feeling in some quarters that the abandonment has been a grave mistake.
