A narrow escape from drowning occurred at the Ashburton River in the yicinitj'.of R Bright,' Ashburton. The boy, with other children, was paying at the edge of the water when he fell in. . The incident was noticed by the girl Bright, who immediately went to the assistance oi the bov who was being carried downstream, and succeeded in bringing lnm\ safely. ashore.
