APPLICATIONS FOB LAND. The following applications for land were 'dealt with:—Section 9a, Otanomomo Settleblent, 85 acres 2 roods 30 poles, Mr Alexander Macdonald. —Approved. Section 20s, \Vestcott Settlement, 244 acres 2 roods, Mr George C. Weatherall. —Approved. Section 60, block XIV, Lower Wanaka, 3 acres 1 rood 39 poles, Mr Charles Henry Dickson. —Approved. Mr Thomas Govan applied to purchase section 102, block IX, Leaning Bock district, containing 7 acres 15 poles.— ■Recommended for Minister's approval. Mr Peter Gemmill Wright, holder of the adloining land, applied to purchase parts secions 2 and . 27. block 111, Glenomaru district, containing 20 acres 1 rood 17 poles. — Recommended for Minister's approval. Mr John Lothian applied for a miscellaneous license over section 223,- town of Komako, containing 5 acres 2 roods 5 poles. —Granted. Mr John Lothian applied for a miscellaneous license over four acres of land on the tailings area in town of Komako. adjoining sections 108 and 110. —Yearly license granted at £1 per annum. Mr W. A. Allan applied for a temporary grazing right over seotion 28, block I, Waitahuna, 2 roods 19 poles.—Held over for a month; Mr Smith to inspect the section. Mr J. R. Wilson applied for a license to occupy as a site for a seaside crib a small area of land on the seaside of the town of Hall at Taieri Mouth. —Granted at £1 a year. The Town Clerk, Queenstown, wrote advising that Mr John Edward O'Connell, the Borough Council's tenant of the adjoining land, was prepared to take a grazing license over the area of 100 acres fronting sections 1 to 3, block 111, Dart district.—Granted at £1 10s per annum. The Ranger submitted a report upon the application of Messrs George Scurr and Thos. Scurr for a small island in Dart River, between sections 2 and 3, block IV, Dart survey district.—Granted at a rental of 10s; native bush not to be interfered with.
Tho Commissioner reported that Mr John K. Brown had now made the required payments in respect of the grazing license that was cancelled at last meeting.—Previous resolution rescinded.
The Commissioner reported that Mr Thomas G. Govan had now made the required payments in respect of the occupation lease that was cancelled at last meeting.—Previous resolution rescinded. Mr Wm. Milne,- lessee of section 122, block 11, Ardgowan (plantation reserve), wrote stating that he could not continue his lease under existing conditions. —Cancelled. The- Southland County Council submitted proposals for expenditure of thirds for period ended January 31. —Approved. Messrs Adams Bros., on behalf of Mr James Scott, applied for the issue of a new license 'over section 1, block 111, Poolburn survey district, in lieu of original, which had been lost.—Granted at 21s, subject to the usual advertisement. Mr W. A. Bodkin, on behalf of trustees of Mr P. IVI 'Gettigan (deceased), applied to exchange run 496, held under pastoral license, to a small grazing run license. Exchange recommended, but board had no power to reduce rent. Mr J. Pilgrim, lessee of section 4, block VII, Molyneux (education endowment), applied for a reduction of rent owing to damage done by iloods. —Declined. Tho Commissioner reported that the lessee of sections 9, block XIV, and 7, block XV, town of Waihola, had been unable to get transferee to complete.—Lease cancelled.
Mr Geo. Webb, jun., applied for permission to exchange to a renewable lease sections 7 to 10, block 11, Duneclin and East Taien, and sections 44 and 45, block 11, Dunedin and East Taieri, held by him under perpetual leases.—-Approved. Mr Patrick F. Dougherty applied for a renewal of his occupation leas© over sections 4 and 18, block I, Gimmerburn district. —Ranger O'Neill appointed appraiser to fix new rental.
The expiry of Mr Duncan Crawford's lease over the reserve between sections 56
and 72, block V, Tuapeka East, was considered by the board. —Approved at 10s per annum.
The board also considered the expiry of Mr Wm. Ritchie's license over section 63, Makareao settlement, area 3 roods 13 poles. —Renewed at rental of 10s per annum. _ Mr Geo. Worley applied for exemption from residence on allotment 15a, Plunket settlement—Referred to ranger for report. The matter of the non residence of Euphemia Bond on section 12a, Windsor Park settlement, was considered. —To show cause why lease should not be forfeited. The board also considered the non-resi-dence of Mr John Thompson on sections 11a and 13a, Windsor Park settlement.—To show cause why lease should not be forfeited.
Mr James Roberts applied for a lease over the homestead 6ite of run 5993, the whole.of 600 s, including the upper portion of the sheep wash, from June 30 to September 30.—Left in the hands of the commissioner.
Mr I. C. Vidal offered a, rental of £1 per annum for a grazing license over section 23, block V, Kawarau district, and the land between that section and the river.— Granted. Margaret Sheehy applied to purchase an estimated area of two acres of unsurveyed land in block 111, Benger district, on which stand the Miller's Flat Hotel and other buildings, part of the land being held by the applicant under a residence site license. —Granted, subject to there being no claim for compensation in the event of the land being required for railway purposes. _ Mr Alexander Sime and Sons applied for a sawmilling license to cut the milling timber off part of section 21, block 111, Catlihs district.—Held over.
