DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES.

PORTOBELLO SCHOOL. A concert and distribution of prizes in connection with the Porto bello_ School took place in the Publio Hajl on Friday evening last. At the I conclusion of the concert, Mr Fergus, who is retiring, was presented with a purse of sovereigns by the chairman on behalf of the pupils, ex-pupils, and parents of the children as a token of their appreciation of the good work done by him while in the Portobello School. A feature of the concert was the excellent work done by the children in fancy dancing, instrumental selections, and singing. Tho songs contributed by Mesdames Brown and ScottHigginson, and Misses Tragillus, Dempster, and Vickers were much appreciated, and Miss Morrison's recitations were highly entertaining, as was a piano and violin duet by Mrs Hahershon and Miss P. Morrison, while Misses Hanning and P. Bingham danced gracefully. Mrs, Habershon payed the accompaniments, and Miss Chisholm supplied the music for the dancing.
