HEALTH OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN.
The monthly meeting of the Society for the Health of Women and Children was held on Friday afternoon; present—Mesdames Johnstone (in the chair;, Woods, Gilkison, M'George, Allen, Theomin, J. C. M'George, Gallaway, Champtaloup, Rattray, Ansell, Hodson, Arundel, Dunlop, Lady Allen, and Misses Gow, M'Dougall, and Woodhouse. The Matron of the Karitane-Harris Hospital reported for the month; —Number admitted—mothers 2, babies 11; number discharged—mothers 1, babies 7. Of the babies admitted one came from Canterbury, two from Southland, and the remaining eight from Dunedin and the sorrouiiding districts. All babies discharged had done splendidly. All babies in hospital, with one exocption, are doing well. The Plunket nurses lor north and central districts report -*d: —Number of babies on the list, 740; number of babies solely breast fed, 47; number of babies partly breaat fed, 35; number of babies, 19. The Plunket nurse for South Dunedin. district reported:—Number of babies on the list, 350; number of now cases (babies only), 14; number of babies wholly breast fed,
32; number of babies partly breast fed, 21. The Plunket nurses report that, on the whole, the health of the babies in the district is good. Mrs W. A. Moore (convener Sewing Committee) reported that the Port Chalmers branch of the Girls' Friendly Society had offered to assist in making baby clothes for the Karitane Hospital. Letters were read from several Baby Welfare Societies in Melbourne and Sydney, asking for information dealing -with the work of the society. The maintenance for the month was £52 6s 3d.
