SWIMMING ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING OF OTAGO CENTRE. The fourteenth annual meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held in the Empire Buildings on the 2nd. The president (Mr W. Matthews) occupied the chair. A financial statement submitted showed that the year began with a credit of £37 13s, and ended with a credit of £27 15s Bd. The total expenditure was £36 9s Id. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, said that owing to the influenza epidemio and the call of the military authorities, the annual meeting of the centre, which should have been held last October, had been put off from time to time. They had had a dead time during the last four years as far as swimming was concerned, but now that the war was over there was no reason why they should not look forward to the future with confidence.
The report was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr W. Matthews; vicepresidents—Messrs J. A. Park, A. Begg, and D. Bannatyne; secretary, Mr P. Ruston; treasurer, Mr P. Foote; local consul, Mr D. Bannatyne; hon. auditor, Mr G. Davidson; centre handicappcr, Mr J. M'Gill; delegate to New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, Mr W. H. Benson. The President stated that Dr Roberts was presenting to the centre a challenge cup, valued at from £7 to £lO, to be swum for every year over .a distance of not less than a quarter of a mile.—lt was decided to thank Dr Roberts for his gift, and to draw up rules for the awarding of the cup.
